Spirit Airlines, known for its quirky and sometimes over-the-top promotions, is pushing the envelope once again with its innuendo-rich $69 deal.

Celebrating the first flights with its 69th aircraft, Spirit is offering cheap fares for travelers who book flights Tuesday through midnight, Fox News reported.

“We’ve been waiting to hit 69 planes for years,” the carrier said in a promotional statement. “It’s our favorite number — ever since we were twelve and found that magazine under our brother’s bed (the one with the fantastic articles). #69 is perfect: just the right size, with a cockpit that’s in your face (because it’s bright yellow). Use your mouth to spread the word: Spirit is in an even better position to get you where you’re going. We’re popping an epic Bare Fare in celebration! $69.00* round trip!”

Company spokesman N. Paul Berry explained that the risqué ad is not out of the ordinary for the airline, which once capitalized on the Anthony Weiner sexting scandal in 2013 with a “Weiner Rises Again” promotion on trips to Mexico.

“It’s not atypical for us to have these types of ads. Spirit isn’t your typical airline,” said Mr. Berry. “The vast majority of our customers think they’re funny, and accept them for what they are. We realize and accept that a small group of people might not think the same way.”

The ad has already offended some travelers who called the approach tacky and offensive.

Denver-based television news producer Anica Padilla tweeted: “Ah, Spirit Airlines… with ads as dirty as their planes.”

Others applauded the airline for its creativity.

“Some might object, but the earned media - media they didn’t pay for - is perfect with this ad,” mused Levi Henry.
