A North Carolina man was forced to put his carefully planned marriage proposal on hold and jump into action at a restaurant on Monday after a man busted in and tried to rob the place.
Nicholas Anderson worked with his future stepson to plan the perfect proposal for Deanna Deal at Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina restaurant in Hickory, a local NBC affiliate reported.
“I didn’t know anything about the proposal,” Ms. Deal said.
But Mr. Anderson’s plans were thwarted Monday during an attempted robbery. The manager tried to lock the suspect inside the restaurant, but the suspect pushed the manager out of the way and began to flee.
That’s when Mr. Anderson grabbed the culprit and placed him in a choke hold. Seconds later, the robber was unconscious, NBC reported.
“It happened really quick. He knew how to handle the situation,” Ms. Deal said.
Monday would have been the third time Salsaritas would have been robbed this month.
As for the proposal, Mr. Anderson had to go with his backup plan by asking her at Winkler Park. She answered “yes,” the station reported.
“After all that happened, asking her to marry me wasn’t near as bad,” he said.
