Florida Rep. Alan Grayson claimed Thursday that Democrats are ready to “crawl over hot coals naked” to vote for him to replace retiring Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

“One reason why Democrats are willing to crawl over hot coals naked to vote for me is because I’m willing to tell the truth,” the controversial lawmaker told NBC hours after announcing his Senate bid, The Hill reported.

“I’m going to win. I’ll tell you those people who are saying anything else are simply blind to the facts,” he said.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) had already endorsed Florida Rep. Patrick Murphy, a former Republican with a reputation as a moderate team player, well before the announcement from Mr. Grayson, who has earned a reputation as an outspoken and sometimes brash party maverick.

A statement released by the DSCC on the day Mr. Grayson announced his bid made no mention of him, The Hill reported.

When asked about the DSCC, Mr. Grayson accused it of “malpractice” and said it needs “a great deal of self-examination at this point.”
