Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, is expecting her second child, she announced Monday on Twitter.
“Next summer, Charlotte is going to be a big sister! Feeling very blessed & grateful this holiday season,” Mrs. Clinton wrote on Twitter.
Charlotte was born to Chelsea and her husband, Marc Mezvinksky, in September 2014. She was the couple’s firstborn.
Hillary Clinton soon made her own Twitter posting.
“Your dad and I could not be happier for you, Marc, and Charlotte. We’re so excited to meet our second grandchild,” the former Secretary of State tweeted.
Mr. Clinton also replied to Chelsea’s tweet.
“Christmas comes early! @HillaryClinton and I are thrilled for Chelsea, Marc and Charlotte’s growing family in 2016!” he tweeted from his official account.
Reporters were soon questioning of the timing of the announcement — and took to their twitter accounts to link to the news.
“Smart campaigns know how to do a news dump that will lead to a flurry of news,” tweeted Ryan Teague Beckwith, a politics editor with Time Magazine, linking to a news of the birth announcement.
Washington Post political reporter Dave Weigel also joined the fray.
“Tampa Orlando Clinton, in order to appeal to the greater I-4 corridor,” he tweeted, linking to Mrs. Clinton’s tweet, implying she was trying to win over retired voters in the swing state of Florida with the news.
