GOP presidential contender Chris Christie says he is confident that his experience gives him an edge over Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican nomination race.
The blunt-talking New Jersey governor is running on a “I tell it like it is” campaign slogan and told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham Wednesday that Mr. Rubio, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich represent the biggest threats to him in New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary.
Asked about Mr. Rubio in particular, Mr. Christie said that the freshman Florida lawmaker is too green for the job.
“He doesn’t have the experience to do it,” Mr. Christie said. “The fact is that he’s a first-term senator who’s never had to make any significant decisions in his career. That’s not the kind of on-the-job training that we need for the White House.”
Mr. Rubio and Mr. Christie are vying for the support of the GOP establishment-minded and country club Republican voters, and both are hoping for strong showings in New Hampshire’s Feb. 9 primary.
Mr. Rubio has been surging in the polls since October, and is running second in New Hampshire behind Donald Trump. Mr. Christie, meanwhile, has inched up to seventh place in New Hampshire.
