A service dog is being hailed a hero after she dialed 911 Thursday morning and saved her blind owner from a house fire in Philadelphia.
Fire officials were alerted to the house fire in the city’s Holmesburg neighborhood after a blind woman’s service dog, named Yolanda, called 911 on a specialized phone, a local NBC affiliate reported.
The woman was treated for smoke inhalation at Nazareth Hospital. She and her dog have been displaced by the blaze and are being helped by the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team and the Red Cross, the station reported.
Jen Leary, founder of Red Paw, said this isn’t the first time Yolanda has saved her owner.
Last year, Yolanda called 911 when her owner fell down inside her home and lost consciousness, NBC reported.
