Allies of Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida announced that they’ve launched a super PAC to boost Mr. Rubio ahead of a possible presidential campaign announcement in the coming days.
The Conservative Solutions PAC is to be run by GOP veteran Warren Tompkins, who has worked in seven Republican presidential primaries.
“Support for Marco’s positive conservative vision and his potential presidential run is growing every day, and I’m honored to help in that effort,” Mr. Tompkins said in a statement. “This race will be won by the candidate with the best vision for where to take this nation and the resources to ensure that message is heard. Marco has the vision — few have laid out in as much detail where they’d like to lead this country — and we’re going to spend the next two years ensuring that the resources are there and used to effectively share that vision with voters.”
Mr. Rubio is expected to announce his candidacy Monday and would join fellow freshman Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky as the only major Republicans to have formally entered the 2016 presidential race.
The jockeying for fundraising dollars is already well underway; supporters of Mr. Cruz said a group of super PACs backing his White House run is expected to haul in about $31 million by the end of the week.
And The New York Times first reported last week that supporters of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won the Iowa caucuses in 2008 and is weighing another run in 2016, have created a new super PAC called Pursuing America’s Greatness.
