Sen. Marco Rubio sent a letter to President Obama on Friday affirming his belief that the commander in chief does not need congressional approval to conduct airstrikes against members of the Islamic State group residing in Syria.
“Just as the U.S. has conducted operations against terrorists elsewhere, there is no legal reason preventing you from targeting ISIL in Syria,” the Florida Republican said, The Hill reported Friday.
Sen. Rubio added that the president did not lay out in “clear and unequivocal terms,” what his strategy for dismantling the terror group would be, the paper reported.
Mr. Obama vowed to “hunt down” the Islamic State group on Friday, and Vice President Joseph R. Biden said earlier in the week that the U.S. would go to “the gates of hell” to defeat its members.
