Several protesters were arrested in Ferguson during a large rally in front of police headquarters, the latest in an ongoing standoff between law enforcement and the community.

St. Louis County officers reported that the crowd turned violent, hurling rocks and bottles at officers, CBS News reported. For the most part, the dozen or so arrested were first-time offenders, the local media reported.

Undercutting tensions was the continued search for the suspect who shot a police officer over the weekend. The suspect was standing outside a community center when the officer approached, various media reported. The suspect then fled and the officer followed.

At one point, the suspect turned back and fired at the officer, striking him in the arm. The police officer was treated and released at a nearby hospital, said St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman, CBS News reported.

The officer reportedly fired back, but his body camera was turned off and footage of the incident is not available, CBS News reported.

Police are actively searching for the shooter.
