Compassion Party candidate Anne Armstrong — a write-in candidate for governor in Rhode Island, albeit a long-shot one — took to her campaign video with pot pipe in hand, firing up and inhaling, all while decrying the fact that her government lied to her about the negative effects of marijuana.
“Yes, I do smoke cannabis and yes, I do inhale,” she said, in the video reported by the Huffington Post. “It helps me. It helps me to focus. It helps to facilitate communication.”
The laws of her state presently allow for medical marijuana. But Ms. Armstrong said in a speech before the “Boston Hemp Fest” a few weeks ago that if elected, she would expand that right to smoke to include recreational users, Raw Story reported.
“I hope that you will read and open your eyes and realize the truth: that we’ve been lied to a long time by our government,” she continues in the video. “And something that’s been essential to our health has been taken away from us, and that’s why people get sick from cancer. That’s why they get sick with a lot of chronic degenerative diseases — because they’ve been deprived of cannabinoids. Our bodies need them.”
The only other two candidates on the ballot are Democratic Party’s Gina Raimondo and the Republican Party’s Allan Fung. The Compassion Party’s main theme is that government should be limited, in line with Founding Fathers’ vision of the Constitution.
