George Takei, the actor who played Sulu on “Star Trek” and is an outed homosexual, told both fellow LGBT activists and those in the straight crowd that they needed to get out the vote, if nothing else to secure the future of gay people in the nation.
He made the remarks in a video that was just released by the political group, Our Time, that targets ads at youthful voters.
“I’m talking to straight young couples because you are going to be producing the gay babies of tomorrow,” Mr. Takei said, Raw Story reported. “The future is up to you.”
Mr. Takei went on, speaking of the need for more gays to get involved in the electoral process.
“I’m especially conceded about the future of this country, because I’m concerned about the gay people of the future,” he said in the video. “We need to ensure their good life by your registering to vote.”
Our Time bills itself as “pro-generational,” not liberal versus conservative, and puts this message on its site: “We carefully consider the majority views of our generation and do our best to represent those positions without shilling for political parties,” Raw Story reported. The group states its major issues include college affordability, equal rights and employment opportunities.
