Packed away in the latest SpaceX cargo shipment to the International Space Station was a 3-D printer — the first time such a piece of equipment has ever been launched into orbit.
The cargo ship, Dragon, touched down on the ISS just two days after blasting from Cape Canaveral, Fla., the Independent reported. The Dragon brought about 5,000 pounds of supplies — including mice and flies for research, new spacesuit batteries and a $30 million piece of equipment that measures ocean wind.
The Dragon will orbit the outpost for the next 30 days or so and then return to Earth, filled with experimental materials, the Independent reported.
