Former President Bill Clinton dove into Democratic campaign waters head first this weekend, railing against Republicans during an Iowa event and suggesting that the GOP’s success depends largely on the ignorance of its constituency.

He made the remarks in context of speaking how Republicans spend “all their time dissing the president and dumping on the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,” he said, The Hill reported.

“Half the time, they’re not even running against their opponents,” Mr. Clinton said of Republicans, The Hill reported. “They’re trying to get you to check your brain at the door, start foaming at the mouth. The last thing they want you to do is think.”

Mr. Clinton wrapped his comments with an endorsement of Democrat Bruce Braley for Sen. Tom Harkin’s seat, and said Democrats needed to “define the terms in which we will relate to each other and relate to the rest of the world,” The Hill reported.
