A sixth-grade girl who was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a surprise guest to her Washington, D.C., classroom couldn’t help blurt out her reaction shortly after President Obama stepped into the room: Why can’t you be Beyonce?
“When I first heard that somebody special was coming, I really wanted it to be Beyonce,” said the girl, known only as Madison, in the Daily Mail.
Mr. Obama took the slight criticism in stride, saying, “I understand,” the newspaper reported.
After the laughter subsided, he spoke of his daughters and said: “Malia and Sasha would feel the same way,” the Daily Mail reported.
And Mr. Obama’s wife was right behind with the commiseration for the school girl.
“It’s a disappointment,” Mrs. Obama said, the Daily Mail reported. “I’d rather see Beyonce.”
The first couple stopped by Inspired Teaching Charter School for the Sept. 11 community service event for homeless.
