SEATTLE (AP) — Twenty-five community health centers in Washington state are getting about $7.5 million from the federal government to help increase access to doctors.
The grants announced Friday will be used to hire more doctors and other health care workers, extend center hours and add services such as dentists and eye doctors.
The money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is being distributed to community health centers in every state. It is coming in response to increased demands for primary care doctors in the wake of health care reform.
Health officials say the money coming to Washington state will be enough to hire the equivalent of 104 full-time health care workers, who can take care of 40,000 new patients.
