PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia already houses Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell, but it’s moving a step closer to opening its newest attraction - the Museum of the American Revolution.
Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the $120 million project that will feature artifacts from the War of Independence.
Located in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood, the museum is expected to house George Washington’s headquarters tent and a flag that declared his presence as commander in chief, as well as an array of firearms, swords and artwork from the Revolutionary War.
Although construction actually started earlier this year, elected officials and museum representatives gathered for the ceremony along with about 300 other people.
Officials expect the museum to open in late 2016.
