FRACKING

- In Santa Barbara County, Measure P would ban high-intensity oil and gas operations that include fracking, well-stimulation treatments and some steam injection. Measure J in San Benito County and Measure S in Mendocino County would enact similar bans.

SODA TAXES

- In Berkeley, Measure D, which requires a simple majority vote for passage, would impose a 1 cent-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks, to be paid by distributors. In San Francisco, Measure E would make that a 2 cent-per-ounce tax and would require a two-thirds vote to pass.

STRONG MAYOR

- In Sacramento, Measure L would give more power to mayors to decide issues and less power to the city council and city manager.

GROWTH BATTLES

- In El Dorado County, measures M, N and O would check development in the Sierra foothills county, which experienced a doubling of its population between 1980 and 2000.

MINIMUM WAGE

- In Oakland, Measure FF would raise the minimum wage to $12.25 an hour and allow hospitality workers to keep all their tips. Measure 4 in Eureka would raise the minimum wage to $12 for businesses with more than 25 workers.

GMOs

- In Humboldt County, Measure P would forbid growing genetically modified plants in the county.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA

- Butte and Nevada counties and the cities of Napa, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and San Jose are among municipalities in which voters will be deciding medical-marijuana issues.
