A pit bull owner whose canine mauled to death a woman walking down the California streets could face life in prison, depending on Friday’s ruling in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Prosecutors want as much as 24 years to life for dog owner Alex Donald Jackson for the 2013 killing, The Associated Press reported. He was previously convicted of second-degree murder.
Pamela Devitt was taking a morning stroll in the desert town of Littlerock when four of Jackson’s dogs hopped the fence and attacked her. Prosecutors say Jackson owned the dogs to protect his marijuana growing operation and knew they were dangerous, AP reported.
Prosecutors say Jackson could have done more to prevent the mauling.
