Police in Washington and witnesses say a gunman with a “high-capacity” rifle went on a rampage against law enforcement, ultimately injuring an officer while firing at several more in three different towns.
The suspect was ultimately taken into police custody, Fox News reported.
First, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s office said an unnamed police patrol vehicle was shot at by someone in a white pickup truck in Great Falls, Fox News reported. Just a few minutes later, Lake Stevens police said their headquarters’ facility was facing gunfire — and KCPQ-TV reported that several police cars were being shot at, too.
Just a little while later, police found the truck and chased down the suspect, fielding fire from the suspect all the while, Fox News reported.
Police ultimately took the suspect — who had been injured during the chase — into custody, but have not yet identified him, Fox News reported. One officer in Marysville was reportedly injured during the shoot-out, but is doing well and is expected to fully recover.
Lake Stevens Police Cmdr. Dennis Taylor said the man was carrying a “high-capacity” rifle and that “many shots were fired,” and police cars were hit “many times,” Fox News reported.
A witness to one of the incidents, Mackenzie Harris, 17, from Marysville, told KMOM-TV that she saw police pull over a white truck, and then saw the suspect in the truck pull out a gun and start firing.
“We heard gunshots, so we ran inside,” she said, Fox News reported. “While we were running up to my room, we heard like two dozen more shots being fired. We walked back down stairs and heard cops screaming and a bunch of yelling.”
It’s not yet know what charges the suspected gunman faces.
