Two schools in Ohio shut down on Thursday because of fears of Ebola, after administrators realized a staffer may have been aboard the same plane as a nurse from Dallas who contracted the disease.
Solon Middle School and Parkside Elementary School officials sent an email to parents about the recent discovery, clarifying that the staffer could have been on the same airplane, but not the same exact flight, as the nurse, Amber Joy Vinson, the local WKYC reported.
Ms. Vinson is one of two nurses who reportedly contracted the disease shortly after taking care of Thomas Eric Duncan, an Ebola patient who recently died.
Representatives for the school district said in the email that they didn’t learn about the situation until late on Wednesday and have since been receiving guidance from public health officials, USA Today reported. They specified that closing the schools was a precaution, to allow officials to thoroughly clean the facilities.
