OPINION:
Andrew P. Napolitano adds yet another brick to the government’s edifice of lies in “Parallel reconstruction, an edifice of lies at NSA and DOJ” (Web, Oct. 8). This latest piece is more than a good summary of past views on the National Security Agency’s domestic spying. It raises the new issue of using the fruits of unlawful spying (from a “poisoned tree”) for criminal prosecution in cases other than national security.
I was an NSA contractor and then an NSA staff member at different times back in the day when everyone working in signals intelligence, inside and outside the agency, knew that listening to domestic communications without a real warrant was illegal and not part of the mission. I find it sad that my formerly great organization is on a slippery slope toward severe political abuse with activities that I think afford only a small likelihood of national security benefit.
