A 15-year-old Czech girl told the parents of her 10-year-old friend that they were going outside to play, then took the girl into the woods and cut off her fingers with an ax as a tribute to Satan, authorities said.

The teen, Alena Skrivankova, is charged with taking Jitka Svehlova into the forested areas near Brno, where she tied the girl to a tree, the Daily Mirror reported. She then removed the ax from her backpack and sliced off the girl’s fingers, authorities said.

“Somehow the younger girl managed to escape and her horrified parents called the police,” a police spokesman said, the Mirror reported. “When the officers arrived at the scene, they found the older girl sitting on the ground with the ax in one hand and the severed fingers in the other.”

The teen was arrested and is expected to be sent for a psychiatric evaluation. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, but her condition isn’t known.

“This is a deeply disturbing case,” the police spokesman told the Mirror.
