Twitter users had a field day Wednesday with Rep. Steve Cohen after the Tennessee Democrat asked the acting director of the Secret Service if building a moat around the White House would better ensure the president’s safety.

“Would a moat — water six feet (deep) around — be kind of attractive and effective?” Mr. Cohen asked Joseph Clancy.

“Sir, it may be,” the acting director said before arguing that the most important thing to focus on is the fence, which could be built higher while still keeping its “historical nature.”

It didn’t take long for conservative Twitter users to mock Mr. Cohen for the medieval inquiry, Twitchy reported.

“Complete with alligators too? Talk to Daenery Targaryen about maybe buying her dragons? LOL. These people are insane,” wrote @diogeron.

“It’s always about optics with these people,” wrote @andrewpcurrier.

“If Obama was just as concerned about protecting my house as he was his,” wrote @donaldson.

“They really need the moat to keep the occupants from escaping,” wrote
@d0gmah.
