Former White House adviser David Axelrod said in a tweet that it’s not the American voter who is stupid — it’s Jonathan Gruber, the Obamacare architect who slung that very label at the U.S. population.

“As one who worked hard to make ACA and its benefits clear, let me say: if you looked up ’stupid’ in dictionary, you’d find Gruber’s picture,” Mr. Axelrod tweeted.

Mr. Axelrod’s remarks come on the heels of video clips that show Mr. Gruber said the text of the Obamacare bill was purposely written in cloudy language to confuse the American voter and the court system about its taxing powers. Mr. Gruber then went on to say it was the “stupidity” of the American voter that allowed Obamacare to pass final muster.

Mr. Gruber has since issued apologies about his comments, and the White House has tried to tamp down national outrage and distance itself from his remarks.
