PARIS (AP) - The French government says two French people have been arrested in Yemen, apparently suspected of extremist activity.

French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said in a statement Friday night that France “is cooperating closely with Yemen authorities in the fight against terrorist organizations active on their territory.”

French officials did not provide details about the arrest or the suspects.

Nadal said the recruitment of foreign fighters in Yemen is a “major concern.”

France’s government recently introduced tough new anti-terrorist measures to try to stop its citizens from joining extremist fighters in Syria and elsewhere.
