ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say an eastern Alabama woman who was attacked by several pit bulls last week has died at an Atlanta hospital.

Lee County coroner Bill Harris says 20-year-old Katie Morrison of Smiths Station, Alabama died at Grady Memorial Hospital Saturday.

Officials have said Morrison was playing with the dogs and the dogs’ owner in a backyard on Monday when one attacked her as she knelt down to pick something up. Investigators have said two other dogs joined in.

After the attack, Morrison was taken about 10 miles southeast to the Midtown Medical Center in Columbus before she was transferred to the hospital in Atlanta. Harris says Morrison suffered a severe head injury and multiple puncture and lacerations wounds.

The Lee County sheriff’s office and coroner are investigating the woman’s death.
