BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A manufacturer is closing its plant in North Bennington, eliminating 36 jobs.

TE Connectivity says the best way to optimize manufacturing was to reduce the jobs at the North Bennington site and to get more efficient at other sites.

The employees were told on Thursday.

The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1m1bRpe ) the company, which designs and manufactures products that make electronic connections, has nearly 90,000 employees in more than 50 counties.

A company spokeswoman says employees can apply for open positions in the company and will receive the standard severance benefits.
