TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - The Gardner-Simmons Home will close later this year after taking and caring for girls without a place to call home.

The home was started in 1988. Last year, the Gardner-Simmons home rebranded as the Providence House Maternity Home for Girls and took in pregnant young women who needed a safe place to carry their child to term.

Erin Stubbs, president of the Gardner-Simmons Home for Girls’ and Providence House board of directors, tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1jxd3zf ) the two girls who were living in the home when the decision to close was made have been successfully transitioned out.

Stubbs says the closure will include the home and the foster program.

He says a formal announcement will come in June.
