WINTERS, Calif. (AP) - Two construction workers died after falling from a crane during work on a bridge project in Northern California.

The Sacramento Bee reported (https://bit.ly/U1Msps ) that the two workers died Friday morning after falling into a deep hole dug for the new bridge’s footings.

The bridge, which spans over Putah Creek on Railroad Avenue, is being built near the town of Winters and connects Yolo and Sutter counties.

Investigators from California’s Department of Occupational Safety and Health planned a probe of the incident.

Winters Fire Chief Aaron McAlister says the workers fell from a basket on the crane into the hole.

Neither worker was identified.
