PHOENIX (AP) - An investigation into alleged sick-leave abuse found evidence that Gilbert firefighters used town time and resources to work for an outside fire district.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1ozszT0 ) town officials on Wednesday released the first of two reports into an anonymous complaint that Gilbert firefighters were calling in sick to go work at the Forest Lakes Fire District near Payson.

Gilbert Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Rodriquez was placed on paid administrative leave in March and retired on the same day the investigative report was released. He also works as the fire chief in Forest Lake.

Preliminary research found as many as six Gilbert Fire employees might have inappropriately used sick leave in connection with secondary employment at Forest Lakes.

Some of the six reportedly could be facing disciplinary action.
