PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - About three-quarters of Oregon teachers said in a survey that class sizes are too large for them to meet the needs of all students.
The survey of 19,000 Oregon educators was backed by the state Department of Education, the teachers union and the state school administrators organization. The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1pnDxuX) that it was administered by The New Teachers Center, a pro-teacher-support group that has given the same survey in 17 states over the past decade.
More than 40 percent of teachers said their schools lack sufficient technical resources such as computers and Internet access and also lack adequate instructional materials.
More than a third said teachers don’t have enough time to plan lessons, grade student work and talk to students about their work.
