TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A security breach at a Toledo hospital may have compromised the personal information of nearly 600 patients.

The (Toledo) Blade (https://bit.ly/1kpZaIp ) reports that the ProMedica group discovered last month that an employee at Bay Park Hospital had accessed 594 patient records over the past year.

The hospital system has not identified the employee or said why the person accessed the records. The person was not directly involved in treating patients.

The hospital said in a statement Wednesday that it doesn’t believe information accessed by the employee contained any financial information or Social Security numbers. Officials don’t believe the employee intended to retain any of the information.

ProMedica said the incident was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but that no law enforcement was contacted.
