NEW YORK (AP) - Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome has galloped for the first time at Belmont Park.

The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner galloped 1 ¾ miles on the sloppy track Thursday under exercise rider Willie Delgado.

The chestnut colt arrived in New York earlier this week and jogged on Wednesday. Assistant trainer Alan Sherman says the colt “skipped over that track.”

California Chrome will try to become the first horse in 36 years to win the Triple Crown when he runs in the Belmont Stakes on June 7.

He will have one official workout prior to the Belmont on May 31 with jockey Victor Espinoza aboard. The colt is undefeated in his last six races.
