DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A central Illinois judge has sentenced a man to 100 years in prison for the 2011 Decatur shooting death of a 17-year-old girl.

Jurors convicted 40-year-old Dennis E. Davis in the 2011 shooting death of Mishyra Wheeler. The Herald and Review reports (https://bit.ly/1oPxZsZ ) that Associate Macon County Judge Timothy Steadman sentenced Davis on Tuesday. Davis’ attorney had requested a minimum 46-year sentence. Prosecutors sought 110 years.

But the judge said during sentencing that the crime was an example of the “kind of random violence the court system cannot tolerate and will not tolerate.”

Prosecutors accused Davis of opening fire on four people on the porch of a Decatur home in September 2011. Mishyra was killed and three others were wounded.
