TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - National Cherry Festival officials plan to trim two of 17 days they were scheduled to use a popular downtown park along Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/T60cz5 ) the decision to cut setup and tear-down time comes after some city commissioners criticized this summer’s festival as too long, too expensive for the city, and an unnecessary infringement on city parks over the Fourth of July holiday
The festival will still run eight days, plus a half-day on the Fourth of July holiday. The midway, beer tent, and vendors will be open a portion of that day for fireworks, and the full festival runs July 5-12.
Set up will begin June 30, a day later than planned, and July 15 will be eliminated as a tear-down day.
