NASH, Texas (AP) - A Northeast Texas man has been charged with going to his estranged wife’s home and fatally shooting her boyfriend.

Jail records in Texarkana show 34-year-old James Austin Friend was being held Wednesday on a murder charge. No attorney was listed for Friend, whose bond was set at $1 million after he surrendered Monday to Cass County sheriff’s deputies.

Nash police on Sunday night responded to reports of gunfire at a mobile home. Investigators say 31-year-old Larry Earl Gray Jr. was dead at the scene.

Nash police Chief Kelly Dial said Wednesday that Friend’s estranged wife and several children were at the home but they were not hurt. Dial says police have no record of prior domestic disturbance calls at the residence.

Nash is about 5 miles west of Texarkana.
