TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New York man who had 24 kilograms of cocaine in his car when he was stopped by New Jersey state police last year has pleaded guilty to a drug charge.

Acting Attorney General John Hoffman says Beningo Gomez-Morales, a 24-year-old Spring Valley resident, faces 10-year prison term after pleading guilty Wednesday to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Hoffman says the seized drugs had a “potential street value” of nearly $750,000.

The drugs were found during a traffic stop on Route 287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills. Authorities say Gomez-Morales and his 32-year-old girlfriend, Eridania Batista DeLeon, who also lives in Spring Valley, were in the car.

DeLeon pleaded guilty Wednesday to hindering apprehension or prosecution. She’s expected to receive probation.

The couple will be sentenced July 18.
