PHOENIX (AP) - A judge overseeing a racial profiling case against the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office held a nearly two-hour closed-door meeting in a Phoenix courtroom to discuss an unspecified police operation by the agency.

Reporters weren’t allowed to remain in the courtroom in Wednesday’s hearing after U.S. District Judge Murray Snow ruled that the matter was sealed.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, sheriff’s aides, two internal affairs investigators and a public relations worker for Arpaio remained in the courtroom, along with lawyers on both sides of the case.

Outside of court, Arpaio declined to comment on the hearing.

Nearly a year ago, Snow concluded that Arpaio’s office had systematically racially profiled Latinos in its immigration and regular traffic patrols.

Arpaio denies that his agency has racially profiled people and is appealing the decision.
