PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Nova Star ferry to Nova Scotia is visiting Portsmouth Harbor in New Hampshire a day before its ribbon-cutting ceremony in Portland, Maine.

The 528-foot cruise ferry was christened in Boston on Monday and arrived in Portsmouth at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Portland, a day before the ferry’s first voyage to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The ferry will make daily roundtrips to Nova Scotia and is expected to accommodate 1,200 passengers and include such amenities as a casino, retail store, spa and fine dining. It fills a void left by end of service on The Cat, a high-speed ferry service that took passengers from Portland to Nova Scotia from 2006 to 2009.
