HANOVER, N.H. (AP) - Students at New Hampshire’s Dartmouth College will see tuition go up nearly 3 percent for the next academic year.
The college’s Board of Trustees approved the 2.9 percent hike at its meeting Saturday.
Undergraduate tuition will increase $1,319 to nearly $47,000. The total cost of tuition, room, board and fees will be about $62,000.
Tuition for the Geisel School of Medicine will go up 5 percent to $56,104 for the next academic year. Tuck School of Business tuition will go up 4.5 percent to $61,605.
The trustees say the tuition hikes are the lowest percentage wise since 1977.
“I applaud the board for emphasizing the need to invest in our academic programs while at the same time keeping Dartmouth affordable for a diverse and talented student body,” President Phil Hanlon said Saturday.
Dartmouth College is budgeting $85 million for financial aid next year - a nearly 6 percent increase over the current year’s awards.
The trustees also approved a $1 billion operating budget and a $54 million budget for capital improvements. Among the projects slated for the coming year are replacement of the West Stands at Memorial Field and renovation of the Alumni Gym.
The board elected Bill Helman - a 1980 Dartmouth graduate - as its new chairman. His three-year term begins in June.
