INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) - Ten Warren County employees have been told they will soon lose their jobs.

Warren County Administrator Jean Furler told The Des Moines Register (https://dmreg.co/1jqAyOh ) that “the budget has always been a number one reason for things like this.”

Furler says the county should save about $450,000 from the cuts in their second year.

The workers have 21 days to review their severance package. Supervisors then will have a public hearing and vote on a recommendation to eliminate the positions.

Russ Nichols has worked for the county for 14 years, and he says the layoffs violate the union contract because it says the county can’t outsource the work. Nichols says that’s what the county is doing.
