The first round of Egypt’s presidential poll has been set for May 26-27 May, the electoral commission announced on Sunday.
The announcement comes just days after Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi resigned from the military and announced he was running.
El-Sisi led the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July after mass opposition protests, BBC reported.
The May election would go into a second round if there is no clear winner, but that outcome seems unlikely. Correspondents say El-Sisi is likely to win the presidency, given his popularity and the lack of any serious rivals.
A second round would be held in mid-June with results expected June 26, the commission said.
