KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) - Investigative crews have begun analyzing soil beneath the former Chrysler plant in Kenosha to determine how much cleanup will be needed.
A Kenosha News report (https://bit.ly/1lcSFqF ) says buildings at the 109-acre site have already been razed. But before the land can be used again, crews need to treat the ground for chemicals and other contaminants.
City Administrator Frank Pacetti says the first step is to gather information and figure out where the city needs to start. He says Chrysler’s plant operators didn’t test the soil beneath their buildings so the city has to do it now.
Most of the remediation efforts will be covered using funds from the state Department of Natural Resources.
