MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Labor says the state’s unemployment rate has dropped to 3.7 percent, the fifth lowest rate in the country.
The 3.7 percent rate is down three-tenths of one percent over January and compares with an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent in February 2013.
The Vermont rate compares to a national average of 6.7 percent.
Labor Commissioner Annie Noonan says the unemployment rate has reached pre-2007-recession levels.
Unemployment rates in Vermont’s 17 labor markets ranged from a low of 2.4 percent in Warren and Waitsfield to a high of 6.6 percent in Newport.
Noonan says that despite the good news, corporate changes have cost some Vermonters their jobs. People who have lost their jobs are urged to visit Labor Department regional offices for assistance.
