MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Agency of Transportation Deputy Secretary Sue Minter says the possible shortfall in federal transportation funding could hurt jobs in Vermont.

Minter testified Thursday before a U.S. Senate committee at the invitation of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Sanders’ office says currently planned projects face the threat of cancellation unless Congress replenishes the federal Highway Trust Fund, which is projected to run out by July.

Minter told the senators that reducing or eliminating transportation projects “translates into job losses in the construction industry” and could “tip the balance” of Vermont’s “fragile economic recovery.”
