JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A former corrections officer has been sentenced for smuggling heroin and marijuana into the New Jersey state facility where he worked.
The attorney general’s office says Bobby Singletary was sentenced Friday in Hudson County to seven years in prison.
The 55-year-old Paterson resident worked at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center satellite unit in Kearny, which is a state correction facility for sex offenders.
Singletary was also ordered to forfeit his pension and is barred from public employment.
He was found guilty Sept. 26 on conspiracy, official misconduct and bribery counts.
Five others previously pleaded guilty.
A jury found Singletary conspired with other defendants over a three-year period to smuggle heroin and high-grade marijuana into the facility, where residents paid for drugs by wiring money to co-conspirators on the outside.
