COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (AP) - Southwire LLC officials say they plan to close the company’s plant in Coffeyville and lay off nearly 200 workers.

The company, based in Carrolton, Ga., makes wire and cable. Company spokesman Gary Leftwich says the layoffs will be spread over several months before the plant closes in March 2015.

The Wichita Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1j7Zp9h ) the company is shifting some of its operations after a recent merger, prompting the Coffeyville closing.

Coffeyville city manager Gary Bradley says it’s always difficult to lose a big employer, but the city still has a booming oil refinery and fertilizer plant.
