LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A consultant who is the former director of Utah’s health insurance exchange has been offered the job of director of the Arkansas agency exploring whether the state should create a state-run health insurance exchange.
Arkansas’ exchange is currently federally run and the Health Insurance Marketplace Board is to decide whether the state should take over the operations.
The board offered the $165,000 a year director’s job on Wednesday to Cheryl Smith. Smith is a consultant who advises state officials on issues related to insurance exchanges.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1jydY8I ) that Smith said she would respond to the offer on Monday.
Arkansas was the first state in the nation to receive approval to use Medicaid funds to pay for coverage in plans offered on the insurance exchange.
