CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Noble Energy will donate $250,000 to the Appalachian Petroleum Technology Training Center in Fairmont to help fund training programs for students wishing to enter oil and gas energy jobs.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said at a news conference Wednesday that a highly skilled and highly paid workforce in West Virginia is vital to the state’s success.
Since 2007, there have been 133 new community and technical college programs tailored to the oil and gas industry in the state. West Virginia has one of only 14 such programs in the nation, he said.
Pierpont Community and Technical College President Doreen Larson said the donation is an endorsement of the work they do.
Currently, Pierpont and West Virginia Northern Community College offer petroleum technology training.
