BALTIMORE (AP) - A former postal worker has pleaded guilty to falsely claiming he was disabled to get worker’s compensation benefits.
Forty-year-old Christopher O’Brien of Eldersburg entered the plea Wednesday in federal court in Baltimore. If the Court accepts the plea deal, O’Brien will be sentenced to six months in prison and six months of home detention. He also agreed to pay restitution of more than $80,000.
Prosecutors say O’Brien worked as a carrier technician at a post office in Rockville. According to his plea agreement, O’Brian reported injuring his back in 2008 and began collecting disability benefits.
Authorities say from May 2012 through August 2013, postal service agents saw and recorded O’Brien regularly using dumbbells, barbells, stationary cycles and treadmills at a gym, as well as doing yard maintenance.
